A function aimed to provide fun and entertainment on Deepavali at the Government Rehabilitation Home for leprosy-cured persons here on Wednesday, saw the inmates voicing their long-felt demand – sanction of old age pension, which has not been granted despite their repeated representation to the State government.
At the end of an hour-long entertainment sponsored jointly by the office-bearers of Rotary Club of Pudukottai and Rotary Club of Maharani, a group of inmates told S.P. Muthukumaran, MLA, that the home provided all amenities for their welfare. However, for periodical treatment, they had to visit the hospital outside the district. Old age pension would facilitate them meet their personal needs.
Mr. Muthukumaran assured that he would take up the issue with the district authorities as well as with the government for immediate action. He appreciated the efforts being taken by the Rotary clubs in providing entertainment to the inmates during ‘Deepavali' every year. N. Kanagarajan, president of Rotary Club of Pudukottai, said that clubs had been celebrating the festival at the home for the past 22 years.
K. Rani, president of Rotary Club of Maharani, said that the inmates and their grand children participated in various competitions held as part of the celebration. Syed Mohideen, medical officer of the home, offered felicitations.
