: The Madurai Kamaraj University is gearing up for convocation here on March 28.
G. Padmanabhan, former Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, will be the chief guest and would deliver convocation address.
The convocation which got delayed by five months due to multiple reasons will be presided over by Tamil Nadu Governor and university Chancellor K.Rosaiah and attended by the Higher Education Minister, Higher Education Secretary and others.
M. Rajiakodi, Registrar in-charge, MKU, said on Tuesday that nearly 400 candidates from various disciplines will receive Ph.Ds at the convocation while approximately 37,000 candidates would receive degrees for semester and non-semester courses, either in person or in absentia.
Further, 73 students will be presented with medals for meritorious performance.
He said that the university is also geared up for the most awaited Academic Council meeting on March 20 and the Senate meeting on March 29 which is taking place the very next day of convocation.
Meanwhile, the university authorities are expecting that the new Vice-Chancellor will be appointed soon as a three-member Search Committee has been constituted to recommend a panel of three names to the Governor-Chancellor for selection of Vice-Chancellor for Madurai Kamaraj University.
“Those who want to apply for VC post have to send their bio-data to any of the search panel members. Three candidates have sent their resume to my office and they will be forwarded to search committee,” Dr.Rajiakodi said.
Members on the Search Panel are: P.Jagadeesan, former Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University (Chancellor's nominee and committee convenor), P.Kanniappan, Vice-Chancellor, B.S.Abdur Rahman University (Syndicate nominee) and C.Kothandaraman, Senate nominee.
The university is functioning without a Vice-Chancellor from April 20 last year .
