: The Madurai Kamaraj University here is gearing up for its annual convocation to be held on October 20.

K.Rosaiah, Governor and university Chancellor, along with the Minister for Higher Education, will participate in the varsity’s 46{+t}{+h}convocation in which 85 candidates would be receiving their Ph.D. degrees.

A meeting to review the arrangements for the convocation was convened by the Vice-Chancellor Kalyani Mathivanan on Thursday.

University officials said that the chief guest for the convocation is yet to be finalised and it would be decided in a day or two. Totally, 75 toppers will receive medals and certificates this year. The convocation will be a one hour ceremony from 12.45 p.m.

K.Pitchumani, Registrar in-charge, has said that the Senate meeting of MKU will be held on October 8 and members will ratify the important decisions taken at the Academic Council meeting which took place on September 21.

He also said that the classes for much awaited Masters in Film and Electronic Media Studies and Master of Hotel and Tourism Management integrated course have commenced on September 26.

Also, the university canteen which was opened recently after renovation works is receiving appreciation from various quarters.
