Posters, boards mar the beauty of the holiday destination
The need to prevent misuse of public amenities has been emphasised by various sections of the society here.
Adverting to the growing tendency among various political parties to use traffic gardens, fountains etc for political propaganda by displaying boards and posters, concerned residents lamented that of late some commercial establishments also have started resorting to the practice to promote their products.
Speaking to The Hindu they opined that if steps are not taken forthwith to check the trend, it would in course of time become a regular practice.
Consequently all the public places would be converted into eyesores.
Expressing the hope that the permission granted to political parties to display boards at designated places would not be misused by commercial interests, they said that even the former should abide by the conditions and also spare places like fountains erected to artificially enhance the beauty of this holiday destination.
Pointing out that such fountains have been erected with help of the private sector, they regretted that they are not being allowed to serve their purpose.
They added that the need of the hour was a thorough inspection by the district administration and the police of various places which are being misused. It should be followed up with the evolving of a plan of action to keep them free of boards, posters etc.
