: Passengers who were travelling in the Nagercoil-Thanjavur Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation had a miraculous escape on Monday, when the engine of the bus caught fire at Perumalpuram near Aralvoimozhi.

According to police sources, the alert driver, who noticed smoke emanating from the engine stopped the bus and asked the passengers to disembark. With the help of the locals and fire service personnel the fire was put out. However, driver Swamithurai sustained minor burn injuries. TNSTC officials, who rushed to the spot made alternative arrangements for the passengers.

The police have registered a case and are investigating.
