A 16-year-old girl of Komarapalayam in Tiruchengode Taluk, Namakkal district, who was continuously exploited sexually by her father for over four years was rescued by the Childline 1098 — late on Tuesday. Preliminary enquiry conducted by the Childline revealed that the girl is pursing Plus One and was abused since she was in her 7{+t}{+h} standard.

Director of Childline 1098 in Namakkal S.L. Sathiya Nesan said that they received a call from a relative (a woman) of the victim on Monday. “Our field team visited the locality and conducted an enquiry with the victim, her neighbours and relatives. The girl was rescued when her father, a power loom worker was not at home,” he said.

The Director said that she was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) during the late hours of Tuesday and was lodged at a temporary shelter. On Wednesday the victim was taken to the Superintendent of Police.

“There is an unconfirmed statement made by the girl that she was even aborted once,” Mr. Sathiya Nesan added.

“The mother did not bring the issue to light, reportedly owing to ignorance about the avenues through which she could rescue the girl. On the other hand the victim was not sure if what she was undergoing was bad. Now that she has realised that she had been abused, she has lodged a complaint against her father,” he said.

Komarapalayam Police recorded the statement of the victim on Wednesday night. Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Kannammal who enquired about the incident told  The Hindu  that enquiry has confirmed the incident and that she would be subjected to physical/ medical examination at the Tiruchengode Government Hospital on Thursday while it could be referred to the Salem Government Hospital if needed.

A case will be registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
