Highways Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday assured Puthiya Tamizhagam president K. Krishnasamy that his suggestion for laying a road along the railway track from Maniyachi junction to Tuticorin would be brought to the attention of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
He gave this assurance during Question Hour when Dr. Krishnasamy said that there was sufficient land available along the track as this would shorten the existing length of the road between the two places.
In his written reply, Mr Palaniswami informed the House that the distance of the road between Maniyachi and Tuticorin was 39 km; Maniyachi and Tirunelveli – 27 km and Maniyachi and Kovilpatti – 47 km. The roads were in good condition.
To another question on the issue of opening an agricultural college in Mannargudi, Agriculture Minister S. Damodaran replied that a minimum of 100 acres of farm land and a sum Rs.50 crore were required to open an agricultural college.
