Krishnagiri: The Minister for Agriculture, Veerapandi S. Arumugam, reviewed the progress of schemes of various departments at a meeting in the Collectorate here on Saturday. The Government will initiate steps to implement the Hogenakkal Drinking Water Project and Thenpennaiyar projects to solve the problem of water scarcity in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.
The distribution of water should be streamlined to avoid problems, he said. Officials of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), in association with Municipality Commissioners and local bodies, should verify the distribution of water at regular intervals.
Mr. Arumugam said steps would be initiated to fill the vacancies of Joint Director, Assistant Director of Agriculture and agricultural officers in several districts.
Cooperative loans to the tune of Rs. 254.66 crore had been waived in Krishnagiri district benefiting 68,639 farmers.
Transparency should be ensured while receiving tenders from contractors to prevent corruption. Officials should extend their full cooperation to take Government schemes to the public. They should also ensure that there are no shortfalls in implementing schemes. The Collector, Santhosh Babu, and the District Forest Officer, S. Paulraj, attended.
