Krishnagiri: The State Government will establish a flower auction centre in Hosur at the earliest. With cut flowers, especially roses being cultivated in a large area in Hosur, a flower auction centre will be established to provide marketing support to farmers from this region, said the Minister for Agriculture, Veerapandi S. Arumugam, here on Saturday.

Inaugurating the 14th All India Mango Festival, Mr Arumugam said a proposal had been prepared by the then DMK Government for establishment of post-harvesting facilities in Krishnagiri.

But the successive AIADMK Government did not implement the project. This project would now be taken up for implementation. Mr. Arumugam said the Government would extend financial assistance through the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and other nationalised banks if private parties came forward to establish a scent factory for extraction of jasmine scent in Kaveripattinam.

Along with this a paddy procurement centre would also be established in Kaveripattinam. The Government has waived cooperative loans to the tune of Rs.7,000 crore benefiting 53 lakhs farmers in the State.

A sum of Rs 254.66 crore was waived in Krishnagiri district alone benefiting 68,639 farmers. The Minister also released a booklet on mango cultivation and distributed welfare assistance worth Rs.18 lakh to 55 beneficiaries during the function. Commissioner of Horticulture, Sonai and Collector, Santhosh Babu attended.
