MADURAI: Minister for Labour, Employment and Training, T.M. Anbarasan, inaugurated a Siddha wing at the Employees State Insurance Corporation Hospital in Thathaneri here on Saturday. The newly constructed ward will cater to the needs of about 200 more people.
The Minister interacted with the hospital staff, visited various wards and enquired the patients about the services provided at the hospital.
The Siddha wing here is the first of three facilities, sanctioned to ESI hospitals in the State, to be inaugurated. The remaining two in Vellore and Salem will be inaugurated later this month.
The Siddha wing has been sanctioned Rs. 6 lakh a year for recurring expenditure and another Rs. 30,000 for the same period as non-recurring expenditure.
An Assistant Medical Officer has been sent on deputation to take care of this ward. A Siddha pharmacist and a hospital worker will assist him. Initially, it will function twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursday, and would be made fulltime later.
P. Moorthy, MLA, Ramesh Kumar Khanna, Secretary, Labour and Employment, S. Vasantha, Director, Medical and Rural Health Services (ESI), Surendra Kumar, State Medical Commissioner ESI Corporation, and Joint regional director of ESIC, Madurai, P. Ganapathysamy, among others, were present at the function.
