"A platform to know more about schemes"

VIRUDHUNAGAR: A multi-media campaign to propagate welfare schemes implemented through various departments began at the K.V.S. Middle School here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the 10-day exhibition, the Health Minister, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, said that most of the people did not know whether they were eligible to get benefits under several Government welfare schemes. Such exhibitions would be a better platform for the common man to know more about the schemes than visiting Government offices, he added.

The Collector, S.S. Jawahar, said that 32 stalls had been put up by various departments.Sale of handloom goods and Aavin products and goods produced by self-help groups for women is the highlight of the campaign.

The exhibition will remain open between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Cultural programmes by school students and folk performances will be organised in the evenings. There will be no entry fee for the expo.

The Minister also distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 64 lakh along with 1,400 free bicycles to students at the inaugural function.
