VIRUDHUNAGAR: Minister for Backward Classes K.K.S.S.R. Ramchandran on Friday inaugurated a newly-constructed library building at Thathampatti village near Aruppukottai.

The building has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.68 lakh under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam. The Minister also distributed 480 free television sets to the beneficiaries on the occasion.

Mr. Ramachandran said that it was the present Government that had fulfilled all the election promises. It is only in Tamil Nadu where rice was being sold at Re 1 a kg, he said.

The Minister also distributed Rs. 1.02 lakh to members of women self-help groups from Pattampudur, Nakkalakottai, Mettugundu, Vadamalakurichi and O. Kovilpatti for setting up their trade.

Collector Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan said that 1,77,278 families of 359 panchayats in the district had so far got free television sets. She asked the people to make the best use of the television sets by watching programmes that helped them enrich their general knowledge.
