Devotees carry 1,500 pots containing 4,000 litres
Devotees took out a procession carrying milk pots from Sivaganga Park to Punnainallur Mariamman Temple on Tuesday.
About 1,500 milk pots containing 4,000 litres of milk were carried in the event which was organised by the Thanjavur Punnainallur Sri Maraimman Brahmanal Kainkarya Trust.
Amidst tune of Nagaswaram, chanting of Vedas and fire works, the procession passed through the main streets of Thanjavur town and reached Punnainallur Mariamman Temple, six km from the town.
Milk Abishekam was performed to Mariamman at noon followed by Annadhanam.
In the evening Marimman idol was taken out in a procession around the temple. Prior to the Milk Abishekam, silver idol of the Mariamman was kept at Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple on the West Main Street in Thanjavur and Sahasranama Archana was performed from April 22 to April 26.
On Sunday, Mahasandi Homam was performed. Chandrasekaran, managing trustee of the trust; and Jeevanna Rao, Sivaram Sukkal, Parthasrarathy Viswanthan, all trustees participated in the procession.
