COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Tirupur District Micro and Cottage Entrepreneurs Association has appealed to the State Government to relax the rules for micro, small and medium enterprises to get subsidies.

A release from the association said that the State Government gave 15 per cent subsidy to small-scale units that were investing in new units, expanding capacity or getting new equipment.

The norms were stringent and not many units were benefiting from this scheme.

For instance, those purchasing a lathe should inform the District Industries Centre in two months.

Production should increase by 25 per cent after purchasing the new machinery and the rental agreement for five years should be submitted.

The micro units were hit by the economic slowdown and power cut. The units were finding it difficult to get the 15 per cent subsidy too, according to the release.
