TIRUCHI: Enumeration of micro and small-scale industries in the district has gathered pace.

So far, nearly 2,000 units have been enumerated in the exercise that started last month. Using the enumeration model designed by Development Commissioner, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, the District Industries Centre is undertaking the task with over 40 trained enumerators.

When the exercise was carried out in 2002, Tiruchi district accounted for nearly 7,000 units.

Industry sources say the number of MSME units will exceed 9,000 now.

Details pertaining to the functioning of the unit, the extent of bank loan, its current status, raw materials procurement, and several other particulars are collected and fed into a computer. These details enable the Industries department to determine the current status and health of the industry, said S. Kandasamy, General Manager in-charge, District Industries Centre, Tiruchi.
