TIRUVARUR: A life-size cement statue of the late chief minister M.G.Ramachandran at the Mannargudi-Muthupettai Road Junction in Cherankulam village in Tiruvarur district was found damaged on Tuesday morning. Police sources said that some miscreants had damaged the left wrist and two fingers of the right hand of the statue on Monday night and escaped in a motorbike. The Mannargudi police has registered a case. A large number of cadres belonging to the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led by R. Kamaraj, former MP, and Tiruvarur district secretary of the AIADMK resorted to a road roko at Cherankulam village condemning the incident and wanted the police to book the culprits. They gave up the road roko agitation and dispersed following an assurance from the police that the culprits would be arrested.
