He had demanded bribe for accepting penalty for non-payment of water tax

CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested the depot manager of Chennai Metrowater, K.K. Nagar, on charges of taking bribe.

According to sources, A. Balaji (30) of Vijayarampuram in K.K. Nagar lodged a complaint with the DVAC that Nawab Abdul Thahir (52) had demanded bribe for accepting a penalty for non-payment of water tax since 1997. Though the complainant offered to pay the penalty mentioned in the disconnection notice, the official demanded Rs.10,000 more as bribe.

A special team formed to investigate the complaint, laid a trap and arrested Nawab after he took Rs.5,000 from Balaji.
