: A 10-year-old boy, who underwent a surgery at a private hospital in Perambur on Wednesday evening, died hours later. Relatives and friends of the boy's family allegedly ransacked the hospital premises accusing the doctors of negligence.

According to police sources, E. Mohan (10) of Thiru Vi Ka Nagar was admitted to the hospital for an ailment. Hours after doctors at the hospital in Bandar Garden performed a surgery, the boy is said to have developed complications and died in the intensive care unit.

Alleging medical negligence, the family members ransacked the reception of the hospital. “The boy was undergoing treatment for about 10 days. When the ailment became intense, doctors performed the surgery. Since a complaint of medical negligence was lodged, we have registered a case under Section 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of IPC,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sembium) V. Subbaraj said.

Police seized the case sheets for investigation. The body was shifted to the Stanley Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. The case particulars would be referred to the Director of Medical Education (DME) for expert opinion, he added.
