Welfare aid worth about Rs.27 lakh given to 766 beneficiaries

Collector Ajay Yadhav unfurled the National Flag and presented the Chief Minister's service medals to 58 policemen for their meritorious service, at the Republic Day celebrations organised on behalf of the district administration at the Government Nethaji Stadium here on Thursday.

Earlier, the Collector inspected the guard of honour and took the salute at a ceremonial march past by armed reserve policemen, home guards, National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and scouts. He then honoured freedom-fighters with shawls.

The Collector distributed welfare aid worth about Rs.27 lakh to 766 beneficiaries. The aid included cheques towards annual family maintenance grant worth Rs.10,000 each to five ex-servicemen and their dependents on behalf of the Department of Ex-Servicemen's Welfare, Rs.1,82,400 to six children under the Chief Minister's Girl Child Protection Scheme (Department of Social Welfare), sewing machines totally worth Rs.14,000 to five persons and iron boxes totally worth Rs.13,000 to five beneficiaries (Department of Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare), iron boxes totally worth Rs.13,000 to five persons (Department of Adi Dravida Welfare).

It also included agricultural implements worth Rs.1,48,625 to two persons (Department of Agriculture), loans to the tune of Rs.7.86 lakhs for purchase of Tata Sumo car and milch cattle (Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation), tricycles worth Rs.8550 to two differently abled persons (District Differently Abled Rehabilitation Centre), medals worth Rs.18,000 and certificates to six sportspersons who won medals in national, State and district level competitions (Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu) and loans to the tune of Rs.14.83 lakh to 645 beneficiaries who are members of village poverty reduction committees (Pudhu Vazhvu Thittam).

Mr. Yadhav also distributed cheques towards old aged pension, widow pension and financial assistance to persons without family support to the tune of Rs.26.79 lakh to 766 persons through the Revenue Department.
