The Coimbatore district unit of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will hold a protest at 11 a.m. in Gandhipuram on April 18.

A release from the party's district secretary V. Eswaran says that the protest is to highlight the plight of residents living close the Corporation's dump yard in Vellalore.

Dump yard

He said that the Corporation had bought the land saying it would establish a sewage farm. Instead, it had used the land for dumping waste for the past 10 years. It had been dumping close to 700 tonnes, much to the residents' chagrin.

The residents suffer from a unhygienic living environment. The much-promised relief from solid waste management scheme had not arrived, he alleged and said that the protest would highlight all these issues.
