Nagercoil: The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnettra Kazagham has decided to conduct ‘road roko' in Kaliyakkavilai on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border on May 29 in protest against the Kerala government not releasing water in Neyyar Left channel for the benefit of farmers in Vilavancode taluk in Kanyakumari district.

Addressing a wayside meeting at Alamparai near Kaliyakkavilai on Friday, its general secretary Vaiko said that Tamil Nadu was sending 200 tonnes of rice every day to Kerala, besides vegetables, dhal, cattle and broiler chickens. The State government has also made an agreement with the Kerala Government to provide power from Koodankulam power project to cater to the needs of Kerala.

But it had become a “one-way traffic' what with the Kerala Government not responding to expectations and due share in connection with the sharing of water with respect to Neyyar Left channel, Mullaperiyar dam etc. He spoke few words in Malayalam to drive home the importance of the issues to the locals at Alamparai. His convoypassed through Maruthancode, Puthenchanthai, Melpalai, Kappukadu and Thylamoodu.

Earlier he was received by the party's district secretary, Ratina Raj, and other functionaries in Nagercoil.
