Cadre to organise series of protests
The Tamil Nadu government should implement total prohibition in the State as the number of people addicted to alcohol is on the rise, Erode MP A. Ganesamurthi said here on Tuesday.
Leading a fast organised by the MDMK demanding implementation of total prohibition in the State and to create awareness among people on the ill-effects of alcohol consumption, he said that even school students are addicted to alcohol. A large number of daily-wage earners spend their hard earned money in the liquor shops, he added.
The government should take a serious look into the issue as increase in consumption of alcohol would severely affect the economic growth of the country. “The government should realise its responsibility to protect the younger generation,” Mr. Ganesamurthi said.
The party would organise series of protests till the government closed all the liquor shops and implemented total prohibition. A ‘padayatra’ would also be organised as part of the protests, he said.
Senior functionaries of the party were present.
