The police are on the look out for some unidentified masked persons who lifted eight sovereigns of gold ornaments from two women at Keezha Puthalam on Wednesday.

According to sources, Chellappan, a retired co-operative bank employee, was residing at Keezha Puthalam near Suchindrum along with his wife Selva Rathinam and their son Anbulathan. Anbulathan was studying civil engineering in a private engineering college in Sivakasi. Meanwhile, Anbulathan's friend Prabhu along with his mother Usha Devi, father Rajasekaran and grand mother Sarojini came to Kanyakumari on a trip on Tuesday.

After visiting various places, Prabhu along with his family stayed at Anbulathan's house at Keezha Puthalam. Around midnight some unidentified persons gained entry into the house by breaking open the windows. They stole four sovereigns of jewellery from Sarojini and four more sovereigns in the form of chain from Selva Rathinam. However the miscreants fled the scene under the cover of darkness. The police have registered a case and are further investigating.
