Martyrs remembered

The City Police on Monday conducted a parade at the Police Recruitment School here to mark the occasion of Martyr’s Day to honour personnel who had laid down their lives in line of duty.

City Police Commissioner A.K. Vishwanathan; S. Davidson Devasirvatham, Inspector-General of Police, West Zone; and several senior police officials paid their respects at the memorial and observed two minutes silence. A contingent of 24 police personnel fired three shots in the air as a mark of respect.

Following this, the police commissioner read out the names of 576 police personnel who laid their lives while on duty.
