PALANI: Tension gripped the Government Hospital here on Tuesday evening as relatives of a man, Podhumani, who is alleged to have died under mysterious circumstances, demanded an RDO inquiry. A heavy police force was deployed at the hospital. R. Gopalakrishnan, Revenue Divisional Officer, reached the spot and conducted an inquiry.
Talking to mediapersons, Deputy Superintendent of Police, K. Sukumaran, said that Podhumani and his two friends, Palpandi and Ravi alias Ravichandran, had a quarrel with a shopkeeper in the town on Monday night in an inebriated mood and damaged properties in the shop.
Based on a complaint, the police took them to police station for interrogation. Later, they were released on an assurance given by one of the three persons' relative, Mayandi. The trio stayed at Ravichandran's house on Monday night.
On seeing Podhumani in an unconscious state in the morning, the other two brought him to the Government Hospital where he was declared dead. An RDO inquiry was ordered on the request of his relatives.
