Construction of Manimandapam for freedom fighter Gopal Naicker will be completed by December end, according to Collector K. Nagarajan.

He was inspecting the construction work being taken up at Virupatchi village in Oddanchatram block at an estimated cost of Rs.69 lakh here on Saturday.

Construction of main building and the roof was over. Masonry work has been completed. Electrical work, fixing of windows, doors and floor tiles and interior and exterior painting work were pending.

He advised the officials to expedite the work and complete it within the scheduled time. A sum of Rs.96,000 had been sanctioned for the construction of ramp for the convenience of differently abled persons. A fountain would be set up in front of the mandapam. Parking lot, compound wall and toilet facilities should also be constructed soon, he said.

A proposal for setting up of a statue of Gopal Naicker in the mandapam will be sent to the State government immediately for sanction.

He also inspected a statue of Gopal Naicker chistled on a pillar of Sri Kadhi Narasinga Perumal Temple at Periakottai village. Image of this idol could be recommended to the government for approval. Public Works Engineers, Revenue and other officials accompanied him.

Foundation stone was laid by the then Minister for Information Parithi Ilam Vazhuthi in the presence of former Revenue Minister I. Periasamy towards the fag end of the previous government.
