Huge quantity of mangoes to be procured for `Bishandavar' procession

KARAIKAL: The famous annual `Mangani' festival of the Karaikal Ammaiyar Temple here will be celebrated from July 8 to 11.

Sudhir Kumar, Collector, said here on Wednesday that elaborate arrangements had been made to conduct the festival in a grand manner.

He said that a meeting was convened on Tuesday under his chairmanship for chalking the special arrangements for the festival. The meeting was attended by temple authorities and officials concerned. He said that the festival would begin with Vinayaka pooja on July 8 and the main `Tirukalyanam' of Karaikal Ammaiyar would be performed at 11 a.m. on July 9 and the `Bikshandavar' procession would be conducted at 9.15 a.m. on July 10. Mr Sudhir Kumar pointed out that huge quantity of mangoes would be procured to enable devotees to throw mangoes during the `Bishandavar' procession on July 10.

He said that the Karaikal Municipality and the Public Works Department would take up the cleanliness drive ahead of the festival.
