TAMBARAM: A man hailing from Uttar Pradesh and wanted in several cases of murder and kidnap was apprehended by the Chennai Suburban Police in a joint operation with police personnel from Uttar Pradesh . He was sent back to his home State on Thursday.

A press note from the Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner, S.R. Jangid, said that personnel from UP Special Task Force had visited Chennai on a few occasions in the past on suspicion that N. Ahmed Khan (45), at large since 2000, might be in Chennai. They visited Chennai again on Tuesday.

Following specific leads, policemen from Uttar Pradesh and the CCB picked up Khan from Madhavaram on Tuesday.

He was produced before a court in Tiruvottiyur on Wednesday and sent to Kanpur the same day.

Police said Khan had been living in Kanniammal Nagar, Vadaperumbakkam in Madhavaram, since 2000 and running a plastic recycling unit. He was last detained in Uttar Pradesh under the National Security Act in 1997 by the Kanpur police and the police there did not have any clues about his whereabouts after his release later.
