A two-wheeler rider was killed in an accident on Sunday morning.

Mathiazhagan (36), a resident of Mylapore, who was on his two-wheeler at Karneeswarar Pagoda Street, Mylapore, was knocked down when the driver of a parked multi-utility vehicle suddenly opened his door.

He fell down and was run over by a tempo traveller coming from the opposite direction.

He sustained severe head injuries and was killed on the spot.

A police official from Adyar Traffic Investigation said the drivers of both the heavy vehicles, Suresh of Purasawalkam and Kumaran of Cheyyar, were arrested and remanded to custody. Kumaran was the driver who opened the door of the vehicle, causing the accident, said the police official.

The body was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem, officials said.
