A 22-year-old man was attacked by his friends with sickles in MKB Nagar in north Chennai on Wednesday night.
He died of the injuries at Government Stanley Hospital on Thursday morning.
According to the police, D. Raja, an employee of Britannia Industries Ltd. in Royapettah, and K. Saravanan (25), both residents of B.V. Colony, had been friends from childhood.
According to the police, Raja had developed a relationship with Saravanan’s married sister. When Saravanan’s brother-in-law got wind of this, he asked his wife to return to her parents in B.V. Colony. This angered Saravanan as he felt he had been wronged by Raja who was his good friend.
On Wednesday morning, Saravanan met Raja and asked him to stay away from his sister. Later that evening, the two met up again, this time, with some other friends, near a playground in the locality.
Without warning, the group attacked Raja with sickles. Onlookers rushed him to Stanley Hospital where he succumbed to injuries around 3.30 a.m. on Thursday. A case of murder has been filed.
