Railway Police took into custody a 20-year-old person with ‘unaccounted’ Rs. 89.12 lakhs at Coimbatore Junction on Thursday.

During a patrol on the platforms they found Anand getting down with a bag from the Intercity Express and moving about suspiciously.

On examination of the bag it was found that it contained Rs. 89.12 lakhs.

Anand said that it was handed over to him by one Gopi of Dharmapuri for delivering it to another person in Coimbatore for gold jewellery trade.

The police asked Gopi to come over to Coimbatore to explain the source of funds and provide accounts for the same. Later, the police handed over Anand and the cash to Income Tax Department for verification of accounts and for ascertaining the source. Further investigations are on.
