A 28-year-old man drowned in a water body when he went for a swim in Kadaper, Tambaram, on Sunday evening. Police said B. Meiyappan was a daily wage earner. He went to the water body near his house for a swim. Residents noticed him jump into the water. As he did not come back to the surface, some panicked residents jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him, but in vain. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services also arrived but were unable to find him. On Monday morning, his body floated to the surface. It was taken to the Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital for a post mortem.
