In a bizarre and shocking incident, a 27-year-old schoolteacher’s hair was forcibly cut by a man after she rejected his ‘marriage’ proposal.

According to police sources, S. Sasi alias Sasikumar (31), a native of Tirunelveli and employed in a private concern in Omalur, was in unrequited love with Rubiya, a schoolteacher of R.C. Chettipatti. Though he had compelled her to marry him many times, she had refused.

On Tuesday evening, while she was returning from school, Sasi reportedly intercepted her and asked her to marry him.

Threw chilly powder

When she refused, he threw chilly powder on her face and cut her hair with the scissors he had brought with him. The public informed the police.

Based on a complaint lodged by Rubiya, police registered a case under Section 341 (wrongful restraint), 294 (b) (uttering obscene words in public place), 354 (assaulting a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Sasi.
