The Pallavaram police on Tuesday night arrested a 40-year-old man and an accomplice on charges of selling property belonging to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. The Pallavaram police said they were acting on a complaint from officials of the Tirusulanaathar Temple in Tirusulam near Chennai airport.

In their complaint, the officials had said that several hundred acres of land in Tirusulam and Pallavaram were registered in the name of the temple and that an individual Vairavan, supported by a group of men, was trying to sell a portion of the temple's property.

A case was registered and investigations revealed that Vairavan (40) had created layouts on the temple property measuring about two acres and sold them to unsuspecting people for sums ranging between Rs.30,000 and Rs.1 lakh.

He was arrested on Tuesday night along with an accomplice, police said, adding that a search was on for some more men. Further investigations are on.
