A 10-kilometre mammo run to create awareness of breast cancer will be organised by Dr.K.Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation (SBCF) and Tiruchi District Athletics Association on October 20 in the city.
The theme of the event is ‘Run, Tiruchi Run’ and it is being organised to observe Pink October – breast cancer awareness month. Students, residents, and employees above the age of 14 are eligible to participate.
Valid ID proof must be submitted and rules of Indian Athletic Association will be followed.
There will be both competitive and awareness races organised on the day. The competitive races will be separate for men and women. The awareness race will be a non-competitive event in which senior citizens, breast cancer survivors, and other interested persons can participate,” Dr.K.Govindaraj, managing trustee, SBCF, said.
For men, the competitive race will begin at Mambala salai and conclude at Anna Stadium, while for women the race will begin at K.A.P.Viswanathan School and conclude at Anna Stadium. There will be a total of 12 prizes awarded, six each for men and women. The prize money ranges from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 1,000 for persons who secure first six positions in the race.
The non-competitive race will begin from Campion Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School and conclude at Anna Stadium.
