A training programme to make engineering students industry-ready has been launched at Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology (TPGIT), Vellore.

This is meant to sensitise the students to the requirements of entry level jobs in Information Technology sector and equip them with soft skills. While several colleges conduct this programme TPGIT conducts this 240 hour course for 182 final year students.

A State sponsored initiative, the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Mission (TNSDM) has joined hands with the ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu (ICTACT) and National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) to conduct this comprehensive training programme.

Mayor P. Karthiyayini has launched the programme at an event held at the institute’s campus on Thursday. Principal M. Arularasu, presided. V. Srikanth, Senior Manager, ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu spoke. At the end of the programme Nasscom would conduct an online test and issue a certificate jointly with ICTACT. It will bear the rating of the student.

The training and materials were provided by the State, he added.
