The Cooperative Week celebrations organised by the Cooperative department concluded here on Saturday.

Rural areas

Delivering the valedictory address, the Nilgiris Collector, Archana Patnaik, acknowledged the expanding role of the cooperative movement and added that the scheme to make medicines available through cooperative societies would be of considerable help to the people, particularly in the rural areas.

B.Gopalan, MLA (Ooty), recalled the services rendered by the department over the years to the farmers especially the potato growers.

The Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, R. Dayalan, explained the objective of the celebrations.

The Special Officer, Nilgiris Central Cooperative Bank, K. Jayakumar, welcomed the gathering. Distribution of welfare assistance and prizes to outstanding cooperative societies marked the occasion.
