Protest against curbs on entry of mail vans into the station

CHENNAI: Flash strike by Railway mail service (RMS) workers protesting against the administration's restriction on entry of RMS mail vans into Central station led to piling up of mailbags outside the station near Moore Market complex since Thursday evening.

Normally RMS vans are allowed to unload the bags in the RMS office situated in the station. On Thursday, the vans were not allowed to unload the mailbags at the office. The administration asked the van drivers to unload the bags outside the station and take the bags in trolley to their office.

Protesting against the directive, RMS officials refused to take the bags in trolleys to the RMS office, which led to piling up of bags. They withdrew their protest later on Saturday after officials assured them that they would take up the matter with Railway officials.
