Madurai has topped the list of graduate-applicants seeking to include their names in the electoral rolls for graduates' constituencies of the Legislative Council.

Of about 3.14 lakh applications received till November 6 [the last date for submission of application forms], Madurai accounted for 23,338. Tiruvallur followed Madurai with 18,699. Kancheepuram came third with 15,005. Other districts included Tiruvannamalai (14,270), Chennai (14,176), Villupuram (14,146), Thanjavur (13,337), Vellore (12,618), Tirunelveli (12,504), Cuddalore (12,347) and Salem (12,126). Tiruchi accounted for 11,782 and Coimbatore 9,554, according to Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar.

As for teachers' constituencies, the authorities received 72,077 applications. Vellore topped this list with 5,503 applications. Tiruvallur accounted for 4,385, Kancheepuram - 4,041, Tirunelveli - 3,783, Tiruvannamalai - 3,329 and Kanyakumari – 3,151. Among other districts were Madurai (2,627), Tiruchi (2,524) and Chennai (2,156).
