MADURAI: The State Government has recently announced the installation of a statue of thespian `Sivaji' V. C. Ganesan in Chennai. Soon it will be the turn of Madurai. It has been proposed to install a life-size bronze statue of the legend of Tamil cinema here. The former Chairman, Board of Trustees of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, V. N. Chidambaram, has put in motion an initiative to have the statue in the Temple City. Mr. Chidambaram showed a model of the proposed statue to the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, at a recent meeting and sought the Government's permission for the installation.

According to Mr. Chidambaram, the Chief Minister has given an assurance to consider the request positively. The ceremony to unveil the statue, Mr. Chidambaram said, would mark an assembly of past and present starts of Kollywood. Those responsible for Sivaji Ganesan's transit from stage to the silver screen would be honoured at the function.
