Sixteen science projects made by Madurai based schools and science clubs of Tamil Nadu Science Forum have been selected at the District Level National Children’s Science Congress to participate in the State-level Science Congress to be held at Coimbatore in the last week of November.

The District Level National Children’s Science Congress is an event organised across the nation with the support of National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSC), Department of Science and Technology.

The event was organised here recently by NCSC and Tamil Nadu Science Forum at S.Vellaisamy Nadar College.

Around 150 projects were presented on the theme: “Energy: Explore, Harness and Conserve.”

The concept of Children’s Science Congress is aimed to spread the principle of ‘Learning through doing’.

The mandate of participation is that, the children will carry out a project on a particular topic in relation to the theme and sub-theme decided for the year.

The primary objective of the Children’s Science Congress is to make a forum available to children between the age-group of 10-17 years, both from formal school system as well as from out of school, to exhibit their creativity and innovativeness and more particularly their ability to solve a societal problem experienced locally using the method of-science.

Three levels


Children’s Science Congress is organised in three levels where the child scientists and their project works are screened under common evaluation criteria.

The evaluation of the project is done for its innovativeness, simplicity and practicality.

Balakrishnan, District Coordinator, Tamil Nadu Science Forum said that the 16 best projects were selected were from Mahatma Montessori Matriculation HSS, Surveyor Colony, Akshara Matriculation HSS, Thiyagarajar Model HSS, Krishanmmal Ramasubbiar Matric HSS, PKN Matriculation HSS, Sivakasi Nadar Matric HSS, SKV Hr.Sec.School Gandhi Niketan GV Hr.Sec.School, Palkalai Nagar Middle School Pallotti High School, PU Middle School Kondampathan, Abdul Kalam Thulir Illam, Anaiyur, Thenparangunram Thulir Illam, Einstein Jantar Mantar Club, K.Pudur and Karumpalai Thulir Illam.
