Madurai Railway Division has been awarded the prestigious inter-divisional safety shield for the year 2012-13 for safety in train operations and reduction in train accidents.

A statement said that Rakesh Misra, General Manager, Southern Railway, will hand over the shield to Madurai Division at the Railway Week celebrations to be held in Chennai on April 12. Divisional Railway Manager A.K. Rastogi congratulated all officers, supervisors and employees of Madurai division who had worked hard for improving safety environment to provide reliable and safe services to the passengers.

Madurai Division had been laying stress to create safety consciousness amongst the field staff, he said.

The division was taking extra care on safety at all places, especially at unmanned level crossings. Efforts were under way to eliminate all the unmanned level crossings in a phased manner, the statement said.
