Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of polio immunisation drive at a brief ceremony held at Raj Nivas.

He administered polio immunisation drops to a few children, signalling the start of the drive that will be carried out on Sunday.

Director of Health Services, K.V. Raman and Prof. Nilamani, Programme Executive, and others took part.

Dr. Singh said elaborate arrangements were made to administer polio drops to children below five years of age.

Special and mobile teams were set up to cover as many children as possible.

It was an important campaign being carried out in different parts of the Union Territory for the total eradication of polio.

The parents should utilise the opportunity to bring children to their near camps to administer polio drops.
