Mandatory if one wants to avail Centre’s subsidy

The State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) on Wednesday urged the domestic LPG consumers with bank accounts, to seed the Aadhaar number with the respective banks to avail subsidy that will be transferred directly in their accounts from June 1. Puducherry is among 20 districts in the country selected by the Central government to start the Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) scheme for LPG consumers.

The matter was discussed at a meeting attended by the representatives of oil marketing companies, banks and LPG dealers here. It also reviewed the process of seeding of Aadhaar numbers in bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

Integration of data base

The project can be successful only when banks and gas agencies seed Aadhaar number with bank account number and gas consumer number of the beneficiaries and then submit the same to National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) for inter-linking. The subsidy is routed through NPCI which will deposit money directly to the bank accounts of beneficiaries.

A senior official of the Indian Bank, which is the Lead District Bank, said that 54 percent of LPG consumers had seeded their Aadhaar number to their respective banks till now.

It had asked the LPG dealers, government representatives and others to take immediate steps to seed the numbers as quickly as possible to launch the scheme. The consumers could approach the banks with a photo copy of the Aadhaar number intimation letter to the concerned bank branch. They could also drop the Aadhaar details with the banks. However, these should have clear details such as name of the customer, account number, Aadhaar number and others. The beneficiaries could send the details by post to the Lead District Manager, Indian Bank, Zonal Office, as well.

He added that domestic LPG Consumers who had no bank accounts were asked to open accounts with the bank of their choice immediately and seed the Aadhaar number to the account.

All the LPG Consumers should utilise the opportunity of special campaign conducted jointly by all the banks and oil marketing companies to seed their Aadhaar number to the bank accounts to receive the LPG subsidy now and other benefits rolled out by the Centre in due course.
