Students of the Department of Costume Design and Fashion of AJK College of Arts and Science created a western bridal wear that weighed nearly 30 kg with a train of 492.12 ft.
Claimed to be the country’s longest bridal train, the white gown took more than a month to be made by students as a project.
The group designed and tailored the garment in the college tailoring laboratory, with inspiration drawn from Queen Victoria’s marriage gown, Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, Secretary of the college, said. Made of satin and crepe with jacquard weave floral pattern, the bodice was emphasised with tuckings to produce a scalloped effect.
The gown has embellishments at the waist that could be tied as a bow at the back. The lower portion of the gown is two-layered with gatherings.
Nearly 300 students took out a rally from Government Polytechnic College for Women to VOC Park grounds holding the train of the gown as the student wearing it walked in front. The students would later redesign the train to make it into garments.
