Union Minister of Finance P. Chidambaram handed over loan sanction letters at an “Education and Rural Loans Utsav” organised by Canara Bank at Arni on Saturday.

According to a release, loans were given to persons from Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore districts and Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry. As many as 6,600 education loans to the tune of Rs.131 crore, about 10,000 agriculture and SHG loans to the tune of Rs.25 crore and a total of 2,004 micro and small enterprises loans to the tune of Rs.46 crore were sanctioned on the same day.

As many as 28 girl students belonging to SC/ST segments were given scholarships to the tune of Rs.1.10 lakh under Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of the bank.
