Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday launched the ‘5 Tens Lights Out Campaign' of Exnora International to create awareness of global warming. Addressing a function organised at Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kolathur, he said, as part of the campaign, the residents should switch off lights for 10 minutes from 10 p.m. on October 10 this year. Use of incandescent bulbs contributes to global warming. Though the State and Union governments may allot funds and implement projects to protect the environment, the success of any scheme or campaign depends on the level of public cooperation. Students must be made ambassadors to carry forward the message of environmental protection, he said. Mr. Stalin also lauded the efforts of Exnora International for holding such campaigns. He inducted Kiruthika Udayanidhi as chairperson of the Lights Out campaign, Tamil Nadu, and Mayor M. Subramanian as chairman of the campaign. An ‘Exnora Magic Log Book' that helps in calculating and cutting carbon footprint was also released.
