Fishing jetty at Sethubavachathiram will be extended up to 200 metres: T R Baalu
Thanjavur: The Union Surface Transport Minister, T. R. Baalu, on Wednesday said that a light house would be built at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore at Mallipattinam for the benefit of fishermen in the district.
Talking to presspersons at Sethubavachathiram, he said that the fishing jetty, which is 90 meters long, would be extended up to 200 meters at a cost of Rs 2 crore for enabling the fishermen to anchor more boats at Sethubavachathiram.
The Minister said that after the Sethusamudram project took off, the fishermen in the coastal areas were given assurance that welfare measures for their benefit would be initiated. The Minister said that he, along with Tuticorin Port Trust Chairman N.K. Raghupathy, and Union Minister of State Reghupathi were visiting areas from Nagapattinam to Ramanathapuram to assess the demand of the fishermen and fulfil their requirements. Based on their demand, it was decided to construct the light house and extend the jetty at Sethubavachathiram.
