A man who hacked his wife to death seven years ago suspecting her fidelity was sentenced to life at District and Sessions Court at Srivilliputtur on Thursday.

According to Public Prosecutor A. Mangalasamy, P. Manikandan (50) residing under Pandian Nagar Police Station limits in K. Usilampatti, Virudhunagar district, attacked his wife Murugeswari, working as a nurse at M. Pudupatty in January, 2004. The accused, who has two children, subsequently divorced her. Again in February 2006, he hacked her while she was waiting at a bus stop suspecting her fidelity. His attack proved fatal in the second incident and he was arrested.

Sessions judge R. Krishnamoorthy sentenced the accused to life imprisonment, imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 and another one-year Rigorous Imprisonment for threatening a witness.
