All 137 libraries in Cuddalore district will intensify their membership enrolment drive, said Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar.
Speaking at the Library Week celebrations organised on the premises of the District Central Library here, the Collector said such an event was being organised every year to inculcate reading habit among youth, because the habit helps transform people into well-rounded human beings.
The district central library had a collection of 1.41 lakh titles, besides having a separate section of books meant for those aspiring to sit for civil services examinations. Besides the central library, the district could boast of a children library, 67 branch libraries, 45 rural libraries and 23 part-time libraries.
The district central library now has 20,994 members on its rolls. While Internet facility had been provided in 10 libraries, the study materials for civil service examinations had been made available in 12 libraries.
The Collector said efforts were being made to identify patrons and donors of books, land or buildings for libraries. District Librarian Vijayalakshmi participated.
